Platelet Count
About This Test
A normal platelet count typically ranges from 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter ( ) of blood. Platelets, or thrombocytes, are small blood cells essential for clotting and repairing damaged tissues. A low count (<150,000) is known as thrombocytopenia , causing bleeding risks, while a high count (>450,000) is called thrombocytosis , risking excessive clotting.
